PPI Response: A Fairer End to Relationships – Financial Remedies, Divorce and Cohabitation

On Friday 24 July 2026 the Pensions Policy Institute (PPI) responded to the Ministry of Justice consultation, A Fairer End to Relationships: Reforming Financial Remedies on Divorce and Strengthening Protections for Cohabitants. The consultation seeks views on proposals to reform financial remedies following divorce and to strengthen legal protections for cohabiting couples when relationships end.

Drawing on findings from the PPI's Underpensioned Index and wider research into pensions adequacy, our response highlights the significant impact that divorce, caring responsibilities and relationship breakdown can have on women's pension outcomes.
