Shantel Okello
Policy Researcher
Shantel joined the Pensions Policy Institute (PPI) in 2023 after graduating from the University of Essex with a First Class Honours degree in Politics and International Relations.
She leads and contributes to major research projects examining developments in UK pensions policy. Shantel is the lead researcher of The DC Future Book and has worked across both Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution policy areas, engaging with stakeholders from industry, government and regulation. Her work focuses on delivering independent, evidence-based analysis to inform policy development and debate.
Alongside her role at the PPI, Shantel is undertaking an MSc in Public Policy and Management at King’s College London, further strengthening her expertise in policymaking, governance and public service delivery.
Her research interests centre on intergenerational fairness and the long-term sustainability of the UK pensions system, with a focus on balancing adequacy, affordability and equity across generations to support secure and dignified retirement outcomes.
