PPI Launch Event

London

05 DEC 2023

The PPI has previously modelled and published work focusing on whole of life Collective Defined Contribution (CDC) pension schemes, and in understanding what lessons could be learnt from other countries who already have CDC.

Currently little has been done to explore the post retirement space specifically to answer How could a CDC style decumulation solution work, what would be the pros and cons and what would be the likely member outcome?

On Tuesday 5th December 2023, the PPI hosted a launch event, The role of Collective Defined Contribution in decumulation. This report explores the trade-offs in how a decumulation Collective Defined Contribution (CDC) pension scheme may operate under the environment currently envisaged in the UK. The report was kindly sponsored by DWP, TPR, PLSA and Standard Life, with the launch event hosted by PLSA.

The launch event was chaired by Kathryn Fleming, PPI Trustee (Hymans Robertson) and was attended by 60 people representing a cross section of the industry and government. A presentation of the key findings from the report was given by John Upton, Policy Analyst (PPI). The following panel discussion involving Julian Barker (DWP), Vicky Holmes (TPR), Rauri Grant (PLSA), Peter Cowell (Standard Life) and Tim Pike (PPI) and Q&A session were held under the Chatham House Rule.
